Shared journeys, stronger minds

Here, student athletes can find comfort and understanding in the experiences of others. You are never alone on your athletic and personal journey.

A Handful of Athletes shared their experiences here's what we found:

Elle Davison: She follows a routine so there’s less uncertainty, less surprises, the day will be predictable. She listens to upbeat music and repeats positive affirmations to herself.

Trinity Jarman: She listens to calm music and tries to think of something else to distract herself. She also tries to smile, stay happy and positive reminding herself she is there because she enjoys it and earned it.

Deemah Almegbel: Praying helps her calm down. She also imagines the worst thing that can happen to put the situation in perspective she can only control things presently that are in her hands.

Zara Boeck: Resting and stretching helps. Also making sure she is well nourished.

Tova Deforest: Before a hockey game she will go on a walk after warming up, fill up her water bottle stay hydrated. Then she will find a calm place where she won’t talk to people but instead visualize the outcome she wants and gets her head into the right focused mindset.

Dorothy Lee: She listens to music or talks positively to herself. She also reminds herself of all the times she succeeded rather then failed.

Stephanie Wehnert: She listens to calm music before and while warming up. Right before, she closes her eyes and visualizes her race and focuses in on a goal like a good start.

"Reading these stories made me realize I wasn't the only one feeling anxious about my performance. It's empowering to know there's a community that understands."
